A game of birds

BEWARE!!!  The pictures in this post may upset those of a more squeamish nature!

On Saturday we went to the market, and found some partridges and pheasants for sale (£3 and £3.50 a brace - cheap!!!).  It's evidently the end of the game bird season so this is it for the year.  I guess everyone else has eaten their fill which is why these were for sale at the market so cheaply.

Here are the poor birds, heads, feet, feathers and all, ignominiously stuffed head first into a plastic bag (yes, they were long dead).

They looked a bit sorry for themselves laid out on the cooker:

F sharpening the skinning knife:

F very kindly volunteered to have a go at skinning them (the man at the market said not to try plucking):

They very quickly turned from looking like "real birds" to "pieces of meat".  Poor things:

Mmmmm, bacon-wrapped partridges:

Dinner is served!

And mighty tasty it was too.  I felt guilty for being able to eat the birds without a single flutter of guilt!

I made stock out of the bones and turned them into a very tasty soup for lunchtime today, so not a scrap was wasted (apart from the head, feet, guts and feathers).

The pheasants are in the freezer - dinner guests welcome to come and share!!
